Toy Box Tutorials #53 – Advanced Camera Techniques

In part 5 of my 6-part mini-series of camera tutorials, we’re going to look at how to use a target camera to get certain kinds of shots. I’ll show you how to create moving shots by connecting a camera to a path, how to get a close-up shot, and how to use offsets to frame your shots. Along the way, I’ll set up 6 different kinds of camera shots that are commonly used in video production, and these will form the basis of a cutscene that I’ll build next week.

Here are the different kinds of camera shots that I’ll show you how to make:

  • Aerial shot – this is the first shot I’ll show you how to create
  • Pan shot – this will begin at time index 12:30, after I explain how I’m generating the enemy and the smoke for my cutscene, which will start at time index 8:15
  • Tracking shot – I’ll cover this type of shot at time index 21:43
  • Close-up shot – I’ll show you how to set up this shot at time index 41:34
  • Over-the-shoulder shot – I’ll show this kind of shot at time index 45:23
  • Low angle shot – I’ll present this at time index 48:10

I’ll also explain some unique camera properties that are available after you connect a target camera to a path. That will be at time index 35:55.

Enjoy!
